STORY BEHIND HARDSLEEPER MUSIC GROUP,LLC
Biography
Oakland native Jaye Sanders made his first melody at the age of eight. By the time he was thirteen, this singer/songwriter/producer was writing his own songs and making beats! Jaye spent most of the 90's in the company of music-loving friends, roomates, deejays and producers who exposed him to a wide range of musical styles and blends . He would spend all day in the studio making beats, strike out at night on his bike to shop at all the stores, and then, finally, on to the hippest clubs to sample the new music. Needless to say he had “Dummy Dedication.” A true Hip -Hop head at heart, Sanders' music started becoming reflective of all the records his roommates were spinning at the time. They jokingly gave him the nickname, “The Black Moby”. “I didn't mind really, Moby's a great musician! I heard lots of different artists that my roommates would play..Moby's records were just very popular in the house”, Jaye remembers. “His sound was definitely starting to come out in my beat production..” that quirky, funky type of thing...".
In 1998, Jaye started acquiring a fan base. These partyers would frequent the places where he performed and deejayed. They would also lend support to the infamous “Rent Parties” they'd have each month. Jaye decided to take his passion for music to the next level and start a music entertainment/production label of his own. After running a couple of names by his girlfriend, Jaye came up with the name HardSleeper (Music Group) for his fledgling hip-hop production company. He explains:
"One night , coming home late from a local club, I found myself locked out the house. I tried banging on the door and windows to wake my roommates. Realizing they weren't going to get up, I wedged a side window, pulled myself up and slipped inside. To my amazement, I found myself in the midst of my roommates, who were sprawled out asleep on the living room floor. There was loud music blaring in the background! I couldn't get over the fact that they were such hard sleepers". This perplexed him and also left him slightly jealous. Later, he tried ripping into them for not being awake to open the door for him and they all just laughed. They had absolutely no idea what he was talking about! “I could have been anybody!”
I made a ton of noise climbing through the window...and none of them wakes up??
A relatively light sleeper himself, he couldn't help but think, “It sure must be nice!”
Jaye admits to having this silly fixation towards 'hard sleepers.'
"It's like an ability I want but don't have!".
Jaye has found it easy to follow his affinity for music. HardSleeper Music Group boasts a sound as eclectic and diverse as the Bay Area itself!
HSMG is a throwback to the Hip Hop production style of the 1990's with a contemporary edge.
In 2010, Jaye's company moved into a much larger space for artistic and commercial productions.
In the last 3 years, because of the support of the label's core audience, they've been able to service and cater to the best underground Hip Hop, Electronic/Dance artists; locally, nationally, and abroad!
